History of Irauçuba

The town that gave rise to the current City of Irauçuba is called "Cacimba do Meio" until 1899. This year, a popular movement led by Álvaro de Alencar Desembargador, Juiz de Itapajé changed the ancient name for the current, which in Indian language means "honey-bee" or "friendship."

With the publication of Decree No. 271, May 29, 1934, 29 of the village was elevated to the rank of district of Itapajé and then municipality, with the actual name, by Law No. 3598 of May 20, 1957.

In terms of eclesiatical projection , has been in the original chapel and consequently Parish, the parish in which subordination processing binds to the Bishopric of Itapipoca. The institution of the parish, which has as patron of São Luiz Gonzaga, in reference to the year 1961.
